BOOKMARKS!

During January I'm going to be releasing a limited number of bookmarks of Kinar. They are NOT adult themed. I'll have an image to upload when I'm done. Here is how it's going to work - this will be limited to Patreon supports and there will be a new tier with a limited number. At the end of the month, when the payments have processed, I will send out all the bookmarks in standard envelopes.

January will be a test run. If I get rid of all / most of the bookmarks I'll do one each month for the entirety of 2016, each month featuring a different character from the Druids Cast. If there is tremendous demand, then I will up the quantity, though I'm setting it pretty high as it is for now. They will ONLY be available during this monthly support, I will not be retaining any additional quantity to sell later, sorry. So get them while you can! Also, they will ONLY be available through Patreon (unless people complain enough).

Hmmm I guess Shai didn't really enough screen time for us to notice but he's definitely someone who likes to talk a bunch, espousing trivia at that! I think the only other time it was hinted at was a long time ago... when he told some story... At least I think that was Shai... I'm probably wrong.

Yes, we will make the leftover bookmarks available to non-patreon users for the following month. So Kinar's bookmark will be available to non-patreon users next month, for however many we have left.

LOL!! Love the "Save of face" there....though obviously unnecessary.

I know I've said this before so forgive me if I repeat myself......but I Soo love how you work such precise facile expression's into your work and story line! I mean, the expression's could not be more Spot-on if it were Trained Actors!
You Really do have a Great Skill with this and a True Knack for Impressive and Very captivating story telling!
I say this because I have in the past read a good deal of comics and story's Most all of which I have at some point lost interest and walked away from......but this, This is Truly a Grand work of Artistic Wounder and a story that I truly hope will never arrive at it's final fanally!
I only wish the rating system here whent higher than "5-Good".....because I would love nothing more than to rate it "10-Great". :)

Awww, thank you. I do work hard to try and show how they are feeling, because we cant really get that without hearing a voice.. so it has to be seen in the face/hands. I try to do more hand work but sometimes its difficult. Im always learning though, and I am glad to know it pays off. ^.^
Dargon 26th Jan 2016, 11:57 AM edit delete reply
Dargon
Indeed it has and does pay off, many folds at that! I find your work Most inspiring.

I have a couple of questions though.....if I may, with the Worgans teeth being so long wouldn't they find eating difficult?

Also, completely unrelated.....when or if your child shows an interest in art, will you teach teach them what you have learned to help further their understanding?
Amocin 26th Jan 2016, 1:05 PM edit delete reply
Amocin
I think at first they would have trouble getting used to such long teeth, but after awhile they would figure out how to work around them. I imagine the fangs are useful for killing, but not so much for actual eating. So they might take smaller bites, and then the food moves to the back of their mouth for actual grinding up and cutting. I noticed this with my dogs too, their fangs very rarely actually touched their dogbones or other treats, and they instead tried to cut foods with their molars.

As far as my children showing intrest in art? Yeah, I think what I would want to teach them most is to not skip the basics, like laying down frame works.. I wasted a lot of my years not doing things as starting out with a simple circle for a head and building off it.. I am mostly self taught, so it took forever for me to learn what I learn and now I know I would be able to teach them that these steps are very important, no mater how good you get.
Dargon 26th Jan 2016, 2:16 PM edit delete reply
Dargon
Great answers, thank you!
I too am self taught and agree the Basic' s are fundamental to strong artistic development. However on a personal note ido find them very annoying at times when all I Really want is to get a work out of my head and on to the paper.....;p
Amocin 26th Jan 2016, 3:11 PM edit delete reply

Thats how I felt too, but now they are just second nature. Im trying to train my brain on working on other aspects I need to work on without it being fustraiting or avoiding it all together...which is another thing.. I used to avoid drawing things, and would find creative ways to hide them. Hands/feet/both eyes, but it was only when i stopped avoiding them that I was able to learn how to draw them..

One artist approached me about five years back asking for advice on their own work, and I noticed them hiding their hands/paws almost immediately, because its what I used to do. I told them to stop doing that, and now they are very good at them.

Biggest thing is willingness to invest time into the craft.. I have a friend who is also an artist, and her child gets very easily discouraged.. She tried drawing, but when she saw that her mother was better, she gave up. And thats okay, art isnt for everybody, not everybody is willing to put in the effort that it takes to grow and learn.
Frostfire Phoenix 27th Jan 2016, 6:10 AM edit delete reply
I have started drawing for some time now... and very easily gets discouraged... So I understand how the girl felt. But I also know in what you say. Practice makes perfect. You need to work at it no matter what. I think I can draw decent but I also dont call myself an artist. That has to be earned least to me. One day I may become one as good as you Amo... But for now I am enjoying your comic and learning from you.

Another great comic as always and I so can not wait till Monday!!

I agree the title must be earned and not given freely as it would loose it's Merritt. For many year's I did not consider myself an artist. It was only after be Told that I was Both on line and in Real life did I think that I might be...it wasn't until people started commissioning me that I began referring to myself as one. And still there is so much I have to learn.....

You mu'sent get discouraged, it is a long and sometimes tedious journey to become an artist.
I think Everyone aspires to become as Great an artist as Amocin!:-)
Amocin 27th Jan 2016, 1:51 PM edit delete reply
Amocin
Im thrilled people think I am great, I dont always consider myself so.. Though I think this is a good thing. I know people say you shouldnt talk down your own work, but I have seen far too many artists who go "Im awesome" and then they stop learning, they stagnate, and then they are outpaced by their peers. Always look to improve yourself.
Dargon 27th Jan 2016, 1:01 PM edit delete reply
Dargon
Indeed you are right!
Wow.....that's interesting, I too have trouble with feet/paws to the point that I hide them. For some reason my hands look fine and have not had any trouble with them.....but feet.....I can't draw to save my butt! I need to practice more and this I know as well as find some good tutorial's on the subject however my problem as of late is finding time...work and life have a funny way of eating up "Free Time".

True, art is not for everyone.....but I think she may have made the same mistake that so many artists do, and that is comparing your art to the art of a Much more experienced artist. I too have made this mistake then thinking how awful my work looked in comparison, without realizing how much time and practice That artist had invested into their work or how long it took them to get there.
This is why I try very hard Not to compare my work to others. Perhaps when she gets a little older she will become more understanding of this, and become an artist in her own right. :-)
Amocin 27th Jan 2016, 1:56 PM edit delete reply
Amocin
The girl who gave up because her mom was better than her is six years old. Its really hard for her to realize such mistakes. Perhaps in a few years she will give it another go, but for now its hard to speak logically to kids like that.. They want instant results, and dont really have that great of a concept of time.

I don't want to bother you, but can you please tell me why haven't we seen any of your characters in human form? In WoW, worgens can change from beast form to human and back at will after they receive the "cure" to their feral madness. Why can't/ don't your worgen characters turn to human from time to time?
Amocin 26th Jan 2016, 6:33 AM edit delete reply
Amocin
Being a Worgen isnt something that is just easily hidden away. If a Worgen enters combat in their human form they automatically change back into a Worgen, I would say the same goes for when they are asleep. Its more difficult for them to maintain a human form due to the curse, as the curse has made their 'true' body that of the Worgen. This can be seen by the fact that in human form, if they walk on sand or dirt, their footprints are paw prints, giving away their nature.

While some of the characters have tried to maintain a human form it ends up just being too frustrating. They have all, at this point, accepted that they are no longer human, and keep their new form on, as it is effortless to keep up.

From an artistic standpoint, this is a furry comic, and their human forms offer nothing for me aside from maybe hiding themselves if they dont want to be recognized.
Viverred 26th Jan 2016, 7:46 AM edit delete reply
Understanding all of the above... it would still be neat to see like a Family portrait of their human forms. maybe as a donation pic? just a random thought.
Zenegra Silver 29th Jan 2016, 12:40 AM edit delete reply
I agree, this would be very cool to see. Like her looking back at a picture of the 3 of them (plus mister kitty!)
Onyxheart 26th Jan 2016, 7:37 AM edit delete reply
question for you Amo, have you ever pondered who would be best as the voice of your characters?
like what famous actors/actresses would you think would be best to voice Kinar, Serid, Koutack, Amo, etc?
i haven't come up with a list myself, but i do seem to read Koutack's lines in Sam Elliot's voice for some reason x3
Amocin 26th Jan 2016, 12:56 PM edit delete reply
Amocin
Okay, I honestly spent some time and looked up celebs.. some of these are simply close to the vocal range that I was looking for, others are spot on the voice I was thinking of.. Those who are close will have a * next to them.

Kinar - Felicia Day
Serid - Josh Dallas*
Koutack - Ron Perlman
Amo - Jennifer Morrison*
Drogan - Michael Dorn
Shai - Jensen Ackles
Mordin - Richard Madden*

Other characters I havent really even thought of a voice for them yet. Or at least I dont hear it when thinking of them talking.
Rembrant 26th Jan 2016, 5:56 PM edit delete reply
That's really cool, as I always pictured Drogan with Michael Dorn's voice, it just seems so fitting, especially since he has voiced two animated minotaurs as it is, and a tauren (or dragon shapshifted into a tauren) is similar. And now I can't help but picture Koutack speaking in Ron Perlman's voice.

As for others characters you didn't mention, I could picture these voice actors on them:
Kaitrin- Nolan North
Ghath- Phil Lamarr or Cam Clarke
Anders- Dee Bradley Baker
Hotah- April Winchell
Sicha- Kari Wahlgren
Lapis- Tara Strong
Callow- Will Friedle or Josh Keaton
Victor- Ian Ziering
Amocin 26th Jan 2016, 6:21 PM edit delete reply
Amocin
I was unaware that Dorn had done more than one minotaur.. I will have to look this up. But his voice was the very first I ever tagged onto a character, it was just difficult not to.

An interesting list.. I think Phil Lamarr, if he used the same voice as Green Lanturn, would work very well as Ghath.. However Anders doesnt seem to fit.. Its difficult to use those voice actors who have a wide range of different voices, so its hard to tack one down at being specific. I think maybe more along the range of Anthony Mackie would work well.

But OMG yes Callow as Will Friedle!
Rembrant 27th Jan 2016, 3:33 PM edit delete reply
Yup, Mr. Dorn voiced two minotaurs for Disney. Taurus in Gargoyles, and when Disney had that habit of making animated series based on their movies, he voiced a rather comedic minotaur in the Hercules animated series.

As for why I chose Dee Bradley Baker for Anders, it's because not only does he have a good range of varied voices, which I feel one could fit a dragon, but also because he's such a master at making creature sounds, and since Anders decides to play himself as the non-speaking type of dragon, it could work.

And for Callow I chose the two guys who can totally play a youthful, perky guy well without sounding like a little kid.
Eleon 28th Jan 2016, 2:34 AM edit delete reply
Jensen Ackles for Shai? Huh. That takes me by surprise. I'd always envisioned him having a higher-pitched voice than that!

You're the creator, though! Glad to know what his voice is supposed to sound like! :)
Guest 26th Jan 2016, 2:39 PM edit delete reply
I love how you make him look like he's pissed off every time he's about to talk then he just says it calmly, and the fact he would've said it to Serid calmly well shows he's willing to work with him, if only for his daughter's sanity.

Shai looks so...uhh...interrupted...in panel 6...
So, I'm curious. What species aside from Human are Worgen the closest to?
Amocin 29th Jan 2016, 10:25 AM edit delete reply
Amocin
Wolves? They are like, werewolves..

Or are you asking what other species they could be aside from Human before being a worgen? Cause there are Night Elves who are worgen.
BloodshedSabre 31st Jan 2016, 7:16 AM edit delete reply
BloodshedSabre
Both points actually.
What species was the original Worgen?
How did the curse come into play? Did someone just decide 'hey I'm going to mix wolves and humans and see what kind of monster occurs!'
I don't think it happened like that...I could be wrong but still...
Amocin 31st Jan 2016, 9:19 AM edit delete reply
Amocin
A quick summery would be that there was a night elf druid who wanted to unlock the wolf form, the wolf form was not something they wanted to touch cause it was too wild, but the dude was like "hey, we are in the middle of a war, we need to do what we can to win." So he accessed the wolf form. This caused the curse, which effected night elves to begin with. Though the curse is not spread to druid specific people, it stems from the Druid wolf form.

The nightelves who were infected with the curse later willingly spread the curse to the humans of Gilneas (Kinar, Koutack, Shai, etc).
Viverred 29th Jan 2016, 12:35 PM edit delete reply
I'm no expert, but WoW also has Worgs in addition to wolves. Worgs are usually associated with the horde faction, are larger and more 'snaggle/saber toothed' than wolves. I always assumed (yes i know) that's where the Worgen name came from. i've not seen anything definitive on that.
Amocin 29th Jan 2016, 12:37 PM edit delete reply
Amocin
I somewhat forgot about them, but yeah it might seem like they are more close to that.

Most other games have 'worgs' or 'wargs' or some sort of variation of the name associated with a direwolf like creature. I assume Worgen may be closer to that, an angrier, bigger wolf.
